The Rescue -or- Just Another Day In The Life Of...
We were having breakfast at Kenny & Zuke’s, when what should appear beyond the windows, at the corner of 11th and Stark?
A damsel in distress. Flat tire! Oh no! What will she do?
Leaving his breakfast behind, James rushed to scene. “Are you a superhero?” asked the damsel.
“Even better,” said James. “I’m a bike mechanic.”
Passersby...

Boo! Who?
For Halloween I became a raven
and stopped by the shop.
Kiddos in costumes fled through the doors, and the candy bowl was bottomless.
The customers were happy, as always.

For The Record
Hi, Friends.
Just in case there is any doubt about whether or not I am in fact a superhero,
I think you should know,
without a doubt,
I am.

Is that a man wearing tinfoil undies?
No! It’s a robot wearing tinfoil undies.
And I am so totally in love.

The Kirkland Criterium
uBRDO sponsored the Kirkland Criterium. The weather had been horrible all week, but the sun came out and the streets dried just in time for the race. I came out to cheer and take photos.
The fans were on pins and needles.
uBRDO represented.
Racers got warm.
Coppers kept it cool.
I was supposed to take more pictures, but just as the famous Nick B. said when I spotted him on the...

Rules of the Road {According to Me} (Part 3)
Rule 3a: If you are going to sweat, slow down.
Rule 3b: If it is so hot that sweating will not be diminished no matter how slow you are pedaling, stop to drink lemonade in the shade.
Rule 3c: When you find yourself in a lemonade coma due to the fact that you consumed not one, not two, but three — yes three! — glasses of lemonade, lie in the grass under the trees and wait for the...

So apparently there’s some big important bike event going on in France in which a bunch of cyclists get together and race each other through the mountains for days on end. Cascade Bicycle Club had a party to celebrate it. I stopped by.
The cutest kids on the planet were there, too. They gathered for a parade to show off their awesome biking skills. Please note, what the kids are partaking...

Temptation Came To Town
Today I went to a classic car show. lt was part of Kikrland Uncorked.
And while I sort of hate to say it…
I am beginning to think…
that cars…
might be way more totally awesome than bicycles.
Don’t hate me.

Rules of the Road {According to Me}
Numbers 2 and 2B.
Rule 2: Always look chic.
Because you never know when the paparazzi will jump out of the bushes and surprise you with their voyeuristic cameras.
Rule 2B: Wear your helmet with a smile.
Yes! Even if it looks lame with your chic outfit.
Remember, sweet peeps: Safety first!

Last Thursday, I bopped into uBRDO to see what was up.
I had my favorite camera with me, so I decided to make the boys pose for portraits. Scotty said, “I don’t feel comfortable.”
James, on the other hand, smiled big.
And I, as per usual, looked mischievous.

Yee-Ha Yes!
Yes to hail yesterday. Yes to sunbreaks today. Yes to riding a bike on a Wednesday afternoon.
Yes to changing leaves and changing minds and changing direction and changing a flat tire without sweat. Yes to changing changing changing changing change.
Yes to pigtails on grow women. Yes to a vintage broach found in the bottom of a barrel at a thrift shop.
Yes to yes and yes and yes! Hell...

Car-Free Freedom
Friend: What did you do last weekend? Me: My mom and I rode our bikes for a few hours on Saturday. Friend: How far did you go? Me: About 10 miles. Friend: It took you a few hours to go 10 miles? Me: Yes. Friend: Did you get a flat? Me: No. Friend: Were you biking up Mt. Rainer? Me: No. Friend: Were you drunk? Me: No. Friend: Silence Those who find satisfaction in tracking mileage and hammering...
Magnificently Mundane
It was Thursday afternoon. Things needed to get done. So I slipped into my serious shoes – these black Mary Janes mean business – and headed for the road.
Library books needed returning.
Jeans needed hemming.
Fabric needed purchasing. (Three yards of bright pink satin, to be exact, for a project involving my old, black, wool coat.)
Checks needed depositing.
When I entered the bank,...
